  • Eight Non-Bubble Teams Interested In Playing Games At Secondary Site
    on June 27, 2020 at 5:25 pm

The NBA and NBPA are holding discussions about a possible second site for the eight teams not participating in the Orlando restart. The Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors face a scenario where they will go nearly six months without playing a competitive game. Sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic that there is significant support from most of those eight teams about the concept. Those eight teams could even play televised games. The Cavaliers, Pistons and Hawks have been the most vocal among the group in support of the idea. The Knicks have expressed reservations, at least in part because they have a roster with several pending free agents. One of those teams could serve as host, or they could also play in a city such as Las Vegas or Houston.

  • Klay Thompson Fully Cleared From Torn ACL
    on June 19, 2020 at 11:33 pm

Klay Thompson has received his final medical clearance a few weeks ago as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in Game 6 of The Finals in 2019. Thompson has been ramping up his workouts since receiving the full clearance. Thompson hasn't been back at the San Francisco Warriors' recently reopened San Francisco practice facility. He's spent much of this extended quarantined hiatus down in the Los Angeles area and part of it in Oakland, working out privately in both places

  • Steve Kerr Says Warriors 'Definitely Need' To Get Together For Offseason Minicamps
    on June 10, 2020 at 5:10 am

Steve Kerr echoed reports that the eight teams not invited to Orlando want to put on some form of their own minicamps, saying that he wants his team to be back together. "The league has been great about working with us on potential minicamps. We definitely need to get our team together for a period of time. I don't know for how long, but we definitely need to be together and have some practice sessions. ... we get them on the court, almost like an OTA for an NFL team where we can install some things for next year, think about what we want to accomplish and get some practice sessions in. I think it would bridge the gap towards a more normal offseason and then lead us into next season in a healthier frame of mind," said Kerr. Kerr said that he favored minicamps over a condensed summer league featuring the eight teams. Kerr added that Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green will all be expected to participate in the minicamps. "I would not consider this voluntary workouts. Obviously, these are really unique circumstances, but given that we would be staring at a nine-month break, to be perfectly honest, I would be shocked if any one of those three guys said to me, 'No, I don't want the work.' They all know they need the work. And we all need the work, so they'll be there."

  • Warriors Unlikely To Let Cap Decrease Change Roster-Building Plans
    on June 8, 2020 at 4:39 pm

The salary cap could decrease by anywhere between $4 million and $15 million for the 20-21 season from its original projection of $115 million. According to a league source, the Warriors are unlikely to let the cap decrease alter its plans for roster-building. Joe Lacob realizes that the Warriors have a limited title window with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green all in their early 30s. The Warriors have a $17.2 million traded player exception they can use along with a top lottery pick this year and Minnesota's first round pick in 2021.
